BOMBYX MORI

The sun shines through the mulberry trees, trees that fortunately bring us their freshness with their lush leaves transforming the harsh heat into cool shade.

First of all we uncover the origins of knowledge. We know of mysterious writings and medicine, we know the universal law and music and, through poetry, we know the power of the word. We also know what a gift has been given to us, like a refuge for souls that are lovers of beauty.

In an attempt to imitate nature, the first mythical Yellow Emperor of China, Huangdi, asked his beloved concubine to show the people of the town, especially the women, the art of silk making. Henceforth the most delicate of fabrics emerged to gain pre-eminence among textiles, travelling across the seas to be enjoyed in the hands of connoisseurs.

It’s commonly said that silk opened up major commercial trade routes, but maybe it’s better to see it as a long, unifying thread, like the silk itself having travelled across continents, as a fine filament that binds us together, linking lives around the world.

In our human-ness we reflect natures processes and her violence; creating genuine beauty, in the sensual fabric of silk as in the music accompanying these words.
