Zayandeh [ از [ن
Bijan Chemirani

Several ancient bridges cross the Zayandeh River in Ispahan, forming majestic geometric figures over the river and as many possible rhythmic combinations.
This piece is a succession of several rhythmic cycles differently composed (12+3, 7+8, 10+5, etc.) on a 15 beat rhythm and played on the zarb as well as various frame drums (the daf, bendir and riq). These cycles come one
after another like a construction game, where spaces and silences give room to landscapes and colours drawn in counter-point by strings that bring relief and depth.
Thank you, my friends, for bringing a bit of music to these drums! BC
