Το Κατέχον [To Katehon]
Efrén López
To my neighbours in Mas de Flors, Jesús, Román and Sara

“To Katehon” is a philosophical concept related to Christianity that is found in some biblical passages. This concept (a “force” that supports and protects the order of things) takes on different shapes depending on the thinker and how religious he is. However, it is always related to a spiritual or ideological power that holds back the forces of chaos and evil.
Personally, I like to think of or imagine the existence of a “Katehon” on a small scale, an imaginary body that exists within each one of us, like an ideal image of ourselves that we can visualise and strengthen, thereby establishing a balance between light and darkness.
With my music, I generally seek to create a form of musical landscapes that suggest these states of balance and harmony. This piece was mainly inspired by the marvellous dutar from Herat, made by the amazing lute maker Mazdak Ferydooni especially for me. EL
